Jonathan Warren, an experienced and well-known figure in maritime education circles, started his career in education in 2003 at Fleetwood Nautical Campus where he taught for nine years, before moving to Liverpool John Moores University in 2012 as a specialist in Meteorology, Navigation and Simulator Training.
Before coming into education, he enjoyed a successful shorebased career as Harbour Master, Senior Marine Superintendent (Deck); and a seagoing career as Master, Chief Officer, Second and Third Officer, having started as a Cadet in 1979. He has sailed in a wide variety of vessels, including the famous salvage tug duo Wolraad Woltemade and John Ross, the Antarctic research and passenger vessel SA Agulhas, fishery research ships, diamond mining and survey vessels, harbour craft, as well as standard cargo vessels of varying size and tonnage.

He is educated to Master’s Degree level, a qualified teacher, vocational assessor, holds a senior certificate of competency, and was recently awarded the Merchant Navy Medal. Today, his work consists of teaching online, preparing candidates for their professional examinations and managing the UK Harbour Masters’ Association Harbour Master Certificate. He is the Director of Maritime Training Limited, a company specifically set up for this purpose.
While at Fleetwood, a wag in the classroom called him “The Met God”.
